What is a skid on the road? Dangers of skidding. Factors that increase the risk of skidding. How to soften skidding.

Skidding occurs when the braking force or inertia force exceeds the traction force of the wheels on the road:

The wheels have grip. When you apply the brake, the brake pads press against the wheel disc. If the braking force and / or inertial force is stronger than the vehicle's traction, the vehicle will skid. The tires of the car will not be able to hold the car on the road and it will "slip".

Dangers of skidding:
During a skid, the driver loses control of the vehicle, which could lead to a serious traffic accident.

How to avoid skidding on the road:
Driving at a reasonable speed and using the brakes correctly can prevent the vehicle from skidding.

Various factors that increase the risk of skidding:
1. Wet road.
2. Worn tires.
3. Incorrect braking (for example, sharp braking on a corner)
4. Interference on the road: water, oil, dirt, rubble and any obstacle that prevents the tire from contacting the road.
5.Technical failure in the vehicle.

The risk of skidding on wet roads increases with fast driving.
Sand on the road will reduce wheel traction.

The risk of skidding increases when it starts to rain or if there is dirt or oil on the road.

The higher the speed on a road with obstacles such as water, oil, etc., the risk of skidding increases.

How to get out of a skid:
It is very difficult to get out of a skid.
In most cases, the driver will not be able to get out of the skid. The best way to avoid skidding is to use the brakes correctly and choose the right speed.

Skidding can be mitigated by steering and controlled brake use.

Note:
In cars equipped with EBS and ABS systems (in Israel all cars must be equipped with these systems), the danger of skidding is almost absent, and when skidding, the system softens it automatically.
However, you should be careful and avoid skidding on the road.
